How to play Daily Word Guess

Every day at midnight a new secret five-letter word is chosen. You have six attempts to find it. Type any five-letter word and press Enter. After each guess the tiles change color to show how close you are:

• Green – the letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
• Yellow – the letter is in the word but in a different spot.
• Gray – the letter does not appear in the word at all.

Use the clues from each guess to narrow down the answer. A strong opening word containing common letters such as E, A, R, T and S will usually reveal the most information on the first try.

Strategy tips

1. Start with vowel-rich words like ADIEU, RAISE or SLATE to test several common letters at once.
2. Don't reuse gray letters – every guess should test new information.
3. Watch for repeated letters. Words like LEVEL or SPOON trip up many players.
4. If you have three green letters, run through the alphabet mentally for the missing spots before spending a guess.
